Amy Skinner, Transition & Employment Specialist

Amy got into counseling and education because she believes that it is what people can do that matters and has dedicated her career to education and service, promoting access and equality.

She earned a M.S. degree in Rehabilitation Counseling and a PhD in Counselor Education from Mississippi State University.

Her Bachelor’s of Arts is in Psychology from the University of Alabama. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor – Mental Health Service Provider (State of Tennessee), a National Certified Counselor, and an Approved Clinical Supervisor. She has 23 years experience working with people with disabilities, including 16 years as a faculty member (10 years tenured) at the University of Tennessee.

Amy was honored to be the YWCA Tribute to Women Equality Award Winner in 2011. She has also served along side some of Knoxville’s most outstanding professionals on the disAbility Resource Center Board of Directors and as Past-Chair of both the the Mayor’s Council on Disability Issues and the Board of Directors of Goodwill Industries of Knoxville. In addition, she is Past-President of the South East Region National Rehabilitation Association and the Volunteer State Rehabilitation Association.

She is excited to use her passion and skills to serve youth and adults with disabilities with dignity and respect, and advocate for their right to meaningful work. Outside of work, Amy enjoys tennis, gardening, and reading all of the books she can fit on her Kindle.
